Come and learn the basics of knitting:  cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease,

FELTED SLIPPERS with Chris Dick                                 $48/3wks

Cold feet?  Can't think of the perfect gift for a loved one? 

This is the answer!  The best slippers you'll ever wear. 

Knitted with 100% wool on large needles, so when you wash

them in HOT water they will shrink to fit like a glove. 

Skill level: Intermediate

Needles:  Size 13, 24" circular needles

Materials:   440 yards sole and cuff color

                 220 yards top color. 

                 This is for a medium slipper, a large will take more.

                 Pattern.

 

CONTINENTAL KNITTING with Dee West                       $16/class

Thursday, August 19

2:00 - 4:00 pm

For those of you who have always wanted to learn the Continental Method

of knitting, this class is for you.  This class is designed for those who already

know how to knit the English (throwing, holding the yarn in the right hand)

way.  This 2 hour class will teach you a smooth, simple way to convert your

technique to the Continental style.  Class will focus on holding yarn and needle

in left hand, knit stitch, purl stitch, and if time permits, increasing/decreasing.

Skill level:            See description above

Suggested yarns:  Knitting worsted yarn in a smooth finish -- such as
                           Lamb's Pride, Cascade 220, or equivalent.  Wool is
                           preferred for its elasticity and ease of working

Needles:    Straight or circular needle US 9 (5.5 mm) or 10 (6 mm)

GILDA BEADED SCARF with Kathy Snyder                    $32/2wks

Saturday mornings, August 7th and 21st

10 am to 12 pm

Learn to string beads onto your yarn, then work them into a fabulous fabric. 

As the Twisted Sisters say, it's really a piece of jewelry!  Just one skein and

one bag of beads are all you'll need for this lovely accent piece.  Sample in

shop plus materials

Skill level:  intermediate and above.

TOP DOWN CABLED SWEATER with Kathy Snyder            $64

Wednesdays, September 8, 15, 22 and 29

6:30 - 8:30 pm

Now that you've done a wonderful, simple top-down sweater,

learn to personalize it and make it even more wonderful with cables. 

Skill Level:  Advanced beginner and above, and able to read a pattern.

Materials:   Top Down Pattern - pullover

                  enough worsted weight yarn for sweater in your size

                  needles and markers as listed in the pattern.

                  You will be given cable instructions in class.

Homework: Knit a 4 inch square in stockinette stitch using the yarn you

                 have chosen and the required needle size to obtain the correct

                 gauge as listed in the pattern.  Bring swatch still on the needles.

Knit a beautiful pullover sweater you will treasure forever! 

Wear it with jeans or dress it up.  Make one for a special gift.

Skill Level:  Must be able to cast on, knit and purl.

TOSCA SWEATER  with Lene Prior                                    $64

Thursdays, September 2, 9, 16 and 30

6:30 – 8:30 pm

This fast and easy sweater is knit in 1 easy piece starting at the

elbow around upper back to the other elbow sleeve, then stitches

picked up for the bottom and collar panel. Instructor used one of

the 12- yarn palettes in Giant Skein Hand Painted Knitting Yarn 

plus a few in her stash.

Skill Level:  Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Pattern:      Noro Flowers, Design 14

Yarn:         Giant Skein Hand Painted Knitting Yarn or
                 660-990 yds worsted weight or to gauge

Needles:   US 8 & 10 circular

Homework: Gauge swatch 14 sts & 19 rows= 4" in st st using the yarn
                  you've chosen and the required needle size to obtain the
                  correct gauge as listed in the pattern. 

                  Bring swatch to first class still on the needles.

 

NEEDLE-FELTING with Kathy Snyder                                  $48/3wks

Saturday mornings, September 4, 11 and 18

10am to noon

Learn to embellish your felted slippers, bags, or holiday stockings

using felting needles, roving, yarn, and anything your imagination

can devise.  Then create charming animals for the little ones in your

family, and finally, hand felt ornaments, beads, or faux stones

(your choice) to broaden your fiber horizons!

Skill level:  all

Materials:  felted items from your collection, or a 8" x 8" felted swatch

                  felting needles

                  felting brush or felting sponge

                  roving

                  yarns from your stash

 

 

BLUEBIRD STOLE with Bonnie Reardon                                $64
Saturday afternoons,
September 4, 11, 18 and 25
1:00-3:00

Easy-to-do lace shawl with markers and a chart to read to keep your

counting straight. It is entirely composed of yarn overs and k2tog or

k3tog stitches, so the lace knitting skills are basic, but the combination

of patterns in this shawl is stunning. A lovely useful stole that is elegant

but warmer than it looks. Would make a great head and neck scarf for

winter or a stole for our chilly summer evenings.

Shop sample was knitted using Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn.

Skill Level: Intermediate Knitters Only

Pattern: Available at Balls and Skeins.

Materials:   Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn (3 skeins),
                 OR Malabrigo light weight or any sock yarn
                 Misti Alpaca lace can be used for a smaller finer version.

                 Yardage required is 1240 yards

Needles:     US #7 for sock weight yarn. US #5 for lace weight yarn

Optional (easy):  Size 6/0 seed beads
                         US #14 crochet hook to pick up beads.

                                     

                                             BALLS & SKEINS'S CLASS POLICIES

Class costs: $64 for four classes ($8/hour). Sign up is at Balls and Skeins. Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis. You may sign up via phone with a credit card.

Cancellation policy: more than 2 weeks before beginning of class, full refund given; under 2 weeks, no refund unless your space can be filled from the waiting list.

Class size: Minimum of 4 students to make a class go, unless teacher feels subject is appropriate for a smaller class. We keep the classes small to ensure individual attention is given to each knitter.

Waiting lists: Will be kept as before. You will be called or emailed if a spot opens.

Parking: Plenty of parking in the parking lot right out front.

Please arrive 10 minutes prior to scheduled class time so classes can start and end on time. If you are going to be late please call ahead
