Intermediate Knitting: Learn to knit DK Socks

£120.00

If you have always wanted to learn sock knitting, this is the place to start!

This is a 5-week workshop spread across 5 consecutive Saturdays with 4 hours per session. In this workshop, you will learn to knit your first pair of DK socks and we’ll guide you through the entire process. Fair warning, it’s addictive and the perfect travel project to tuck into your bag on the go!

Week 1 - Talking through your yarn & needle choices, an overview of the sock construction and getting started with your first sock (including casting on, ribbing the cuff and starting the stockinette leg).
Week 2 - Finishing the leg of your sock and moving on to the heel flap & heel turn.
Week 3 - Working on the gusset, picking up stiches for this and decreasing to shape your heel. We’ll also cover getting started on the foot of the sock in stockinette.
Week 4 - Finishing the foot of the sock and moving onto the toe-shaping decreases, followed by the Kitchener stitch to graft together the live stiches at the end to give you a finished sock! We’ll get started with the second sock as well in this session, which you will then go away and get cracking on.
Week 5 - This session is for any questions you may have with the second sock, or if you get stuck with it. We’ll also cover things like undoing mistakes, fixing dropped stitches, helpful tips to keep track of your rows to ensure both socks are the same.

Level of Experience: Intermediate

Prerequisites: You should have basic knitting skills, including knitting, purling and knit increases. While experience with magic loop knitting is ideal, it's not necessary.

Materials: A skein of DK sock yarn***, 3.25 mm fixed circular knitting needles 40 inches in length, bulb stitch markers, stitch stoppers and the sock pattern will be provided at the first session.
***After booking and closer to the workshop date, you will be sent details of the yarn and the colourways available so you can make a selection.

During the course, you will also learn:

  • Yarn weights - understand the different weights and what they are suitable for.

  • Needle sizes- learn how to choose the right hook for your yarn and pattern.

  • Pattern reading - understanding the different stitches and terms in your pattern.

  • Essential techniques - build your confidence through hands-on practice.

You'll be supported throughout the course in a small, relaxed and encouraging group; with plenty of time to practise, ask questions and develop your skills.

  • Materials provided.

  • Refreshments provided.
